Travelers Partners With Windy City Habitat for Humanity To Celebrate World Habitat Day

Chicago, IL -- October 14, 2011 -- As part of the ongoing celebration of World Habitat Day, Travelers, a leading provider of property casualty insurance for auto, home and business, has partnered with Windy City Habitat for Humanity to help eliminate poverty housing in the Chicago metropolitan area. On Thursday, October 13, nine employees from Travelers Chicago Office swung hammers, hung dry wall, and painted new facades on several houses located on Chicago's South Side.

"We are very excited that Travelers has joined our mission in helping rebuild homes in Chicago and provide families with the opportunity to live in decent, affordable houses," said Jennifer Parks, Executive Director, Windy City Habitat For Humanity. "Travelers is a strong supporter of helping create and maintain stability in local neighborhoods. For more than 150 years, Travelers has been committed to the communities in which they do business.”

Windy City Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people from all walks of life to build simple, decent, affordable houses and to strengthen families and neighborhoods. Partner families working with the organization invest hours of their "sweat-equity labor” in exchange for support with the building of houses. The organization works with these families to help low-wage earners who do not qualify for conventional loans. Through this approach, Habitat gives partner families a hand-up, restoring the hope and dignity that poverty can strip away. Thanks to dedicated and generous supporters, Windy City Habitat for Humanity has built or renovated houses for more than 150 families.
